Pump Up
Get down and give me 20! Oftentimes the feeling of a lack of control in your life can leave you in the dumps. Do something physical like kickboxing, push-ups, or sprinting on the track. Awakening your physical prowess will restore your confidence and empower you to take hold of the reigns.
Get Your Nutrients
If you’re guilty of shirking off your nutrition needs for instant ramen or frozen pizza, you may be contributing to moodiness and fatigue. Try incorporating some of the foods listed below for a change in attitude:
Eggs, Lean Beef, Fish and Poultry: Aside from the energy-providing protein, they are rich in B vitamins which contributes to healthy neural function and mood regulation. In a recent 12 year study of 3,000 older adults, researchers found that a lower intake of vitamin B put participants at a higher risk for depression.
Nuts and Seeds: The magnesium found in this snack option heavily influences the production of serotonin, otherwise known as the “feel-good” brain chemical.
Cold-Water Fish: Examples include wild salmon, sardines, mackerel, herring and trout. The omega-3 fatty acids found in these fish have shown to increase the nerve function of the gray matter in parts of the brain that people with depression lack.
Pamper Yourself
Take a hot bath. Paint your nails. Give yourself a DIY facial. Appreciate the little things in life. Better yet? Do it with a friend! Feeling good about yourself can start with something as simple as a makeover.
