Harumi w/ Drink

Harumi Klossowski de Rola (daughter of Count Balthazar aka Balthus, 91, one of the world's greatest living artists, and a highly respected painter Setsuko Ideta) and her friend Charuvan Sursock-Rangsit, Princess of Thailand, are the fastest rising jewelry designers in Europe.

Their Asian-inspired earrings and necklaces, ranging fron $425 to $2,600, were first shown in Geneva, Harumi's hometown, in November 96, where they sold out. You can also buy them at the shoe designer Christian Louboutin's store on 23 Motcomb Street in London, while the U.S. launch was spearheaded by Christie's.

The designs are elegantly refined with understated use of colors, infused by semiprecious stones like turquoise, garnet, and corals, and Chinese satin buttons that were bought by her mother during her honeymoon throughout Asia in 1967.

Harumi turned to jewelry design in 1995 after working in Galliano's Paris press office for 18 months. She then returned to Geneva with her boy friend, Yvan de la Fressange.

Harumi was born in 1973 and spent the early years in Rome. At four, the family moved to the Grand Chalet in the tiny Swiss village of Rossinere near Gstaad. Her early childhood memories include visits from people like Audrey Hepburn and Federico Fellini. She likes to watch horror films and is a romance-novel junkie, having read over 200 of Barbara Cartland's confections.
