Eye Makeup
QUESTION:

How do I get my single eyelid to appear more awake? I am in my 40s and maintain a tan so as to avoid using too much makeup.

ANSWER:

The eyeshadow color depends largely on your tanned skin tone, but here are a few tips on making the eyes look more opened.

1. Tweeze the brows to make the eyes look a bit wider, with extra attention to the arch.

2. Trace a black line at the base of the upper lashes with black eyeshadow, blending upwards and outwards. Most of the dark shades will disappear when you open your eyes, with the exception of a band of dark shades just above the opened eyes.

3. Blend the eyeshadow of your choice over the entire lid minus the browbone area. Blend.

4. Apply mascara as many times as it takes to thicken the upper lashes. Try Estee Lauder More Than Mascara or Shiseido. They will build volume quickly, and lightly curl your lashes too. The thickened lashes will hold up the extra skin folding over the eyes, as well as give the illusion of widened eyes.

5. Apply mascara on the lower lashes about three times to give added definition to the eyes.
