Tokyo got a shot of J-beauty diplomacy this week when Spyra Beauty founder and CEO Anni Ankola — a former Mr. USA — took his seat on the judging panel for the 2026 Mrs. Universe Japan pageant.
Announced on August 15, the move is part of Spyra’s broader mission to bring Japanese skincare, haircare, and personal care products to consumers around the world through a distribution network spanning the United States, Australia, Latin America, and Africa.
Ankola’s presence behind the judges’ table signals an intentional strategy to market J-beauty not just through product pipelines, but through cultural storytelling.
“Beauty can be an introduction to an entire culture,” Ankola said in the announcement. The pageant platform gave Spyra visibility into a new generation of Japanese women using competition as a launchpad for personal and community missions — and gave J-beauty a prime-time stage far beyond the usual skincare shelf.
