Stephanie Hsu is an Oscar-nominated actress whose dynamic career spans theater, television, and film.  She stars in the upcoming animated Netflix series Dang!, playing Ruthie, a high-achieving older sister who disrupts her siblings’ lives in New York City.

Before diving into her newest screen project, Hsu returned to her stage roots earlier this year, starring in the Broadway revival of The Rocky Horror Show at Studio 54. 

She made her mark on Broadway early in her career by originating high-profile roles, including Karen the Computer in SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical from 2016 to 2017 and Christine Canigula in the cult hit Be More Chill from 2015 to 2019.

On the small screen, Hsu made regular appearances on MTV’s comedy series Girl Code from 2013 to 2015, spanning 56 episodes.  She went on to play Joy Armstrong in 19 episodes of the Hulu drama The Path from 2016 to 2018 and earned widespread acclaim for her recurring role as Mei Lin on Amazon Prime’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel from 2019 to 2023, appearing in 14 episodes.

Hsu achieved major film stardom and an Academy Award nomination for her dual role in 2022’s Everything Everywhere All at Once.  Her notable movie credits also include 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, 2023’s Joy Ride, and 2024’s The Fall Guy.

The 35-year-old Chinese American actress was raised by a single mother in Torrance, California.  Her maternal grandmother fled mainland China for Taiwan during the Chinese Civil War, and her mother later immigrated to the United States.  Hsu moved across the country to study acting at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, graduating in 2012 with a bachelor of fine arts in drama.  Following graduation, she spent the next few years breaking into the industry through New York’s experimental theater and comedy circuit before transitioning to mainstream screen and stage roles.

Anchored by her comedic timing and voice acting talents, projects like Dang! highlight the next exciting phase of her evolving screen career.  As one of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood today, fans can also look forward to her upcoming role voicing Margot in the animated musical fantasy comedy film Steps, scheduled for release on November 20th.
