          Here are the qualities less definable, but just as important for today’s dating realities. Everyone has experienced it at some point: When an attractive person dropped in numbers as conversation passed, and conversely, when the average Joe spiked in appeal as you got to know them.

               The Eyes: For men, eye contact is one of the most luring and attractive things a woman can do. According to Elizabeth Clark, the author for Flirting for Dummies, it actually produces a physiological response in the opposite sex. “If a lady is staring at you for 10 seconds, it’s because she wants you. Women always get themselves into trouble by doing that.” This is perfectly illustrated in many European countries, where a casual glance can quickly turn into a speed dating scene.

               Hard To Get: Men are drawn to women who are hard to get for everyone else, but easy to get for them. Next time you’re making eyes with the cutie across the bar, mingle freely with other prospects, but reel him in by directing your attention back to him.

               Confidence: Someone who presents herself like she’s a catch will get treated like one. Confidence also displays a youthful vitality that signals mental, physical and social prowess. In this interconnected world, it pays to be a charmer.

               Sense of Humor: Men are attracted to women who laugh at their jokes. Call it an ego-trip, but it makes him feel like a stud.

               Intelligence: In a world where the breadwinner is just as likely to be the woman as the man, being able to function independently in society is a highly valued quality, indicating status and better survival for both partners and offspring.

          It appears the science behind attraction is dictated less by the meeting of two souls and more by smells, looks and a hot bod. What men generally find attractive in a woman all point to an emphasis on femininity: smaller waists, thinner faces, and higher voices. If you want to live by the rules according to science, zip up that dress, put on your face and rock those heels. You may feel like a walking manikin, but at least you’ll look good.

          Lesson: If you have it, flaunt it, and if you don’t, don’t sweat it because when it goes beyond flirting to finding a meaningful relationship beauty, well, doesn’t last forever.
