Guy-Giving Guide Timeline

     The Holiday season is upon us and if you’re still puzzling over what to get your hubby this Black Friday, here is a guideline of ideas to help you brainstorm.

1 Month: DVD/Blueray Disc + Mixtape
     This is probably the trickiest period of dating and gift-giving. You want to steer away from extravagant, and yet show him you care. Mix something practical and something a little personal.

6 Months: Tickets
     A perfect gift to let him know what a cool, fun gal he’s snagged: someone who takes an interest in his hobbies and is willing to partake. Not only will be thrilled by the gesture, but it’s a great opportunity for you to do an activity that can bring you closer.

1 Year: Tech Gadget
     Something that shows commitment, not smothering. He will love the thoughtfulness and cool-factor of bragging to his friends.

2 Years: Cologne
     You are in the stages of your relationship where buying toiletries for each other isn’t forbidden (how many times have you made him buy tampons at the drug-store?). Yes, it may come off vaguely as marking your territory, but he’ll be thinking about you every morning.

3 Years: Clothing
     A great opportunity for a couple of reasons. This is a perfect way to introduce him to, ahem, an updated wardrobe, and a way for you to show him that you still take an active interest in his appearance.

4 Years: Watch
     This is a chance for you to get him something akin to those diamond earrings you’ve been hoping for. It’ll appeal to his practical side (and though he may not admit it, his vanity). And if he still hasn’t gotten you that piece of jewelry you’ve been hoping for, this should be a big enough hint.

5 Years: A Weekend trip, or Something Extra
     Something special is called for this milestone in a relationship. If you have the means, a weekend trip away at some tucked away winery is a great opportunity to reignite that intimacy. If that’s too pricey, go back to any of the previous years’ gifts and add a special something extra like lingerie (something he will undoubtedly appreciate), a customized album or scrapbook.
